 Sai Hsai Mao - The Promises of Panglong | ၸၢႆးသၢႆမၢဝ်း - လိၵ်ႈႁူမ်ႈမၢႆပၢင်လူင်

Sai Hsai Mao was TORTURED by the government!!  Over his "underground" radio songs from the 60s (mentioned by his own speaking).  What a story!!!  The opening song, "The Promises of Panglong", this is his original song, written by Sai Kham Liek.  That's who wrote it for him,  but Sai Hsai Mao decided to yell out loud "all the Shan wrote the song".  Then they buried him underground, completely isolated him.  Until he came out, and he promised to NOT play it again.  Then he escaped to Thailand and recorded several tapes.  Then... after several years... he got a team of lawyers and decided to cease his political songs.  To help protect himself from the government.  How interesting is that??

The lyrics:

A free homeland for the Shan
This, we agreed on at Panglong
The vows and promises so solemnly made
And now, though it has never been told
By whom the promises were broken
We know who betrayed whom
But the Shan have always been true
Where are the vows and promises of Panglong
Have they all gone, I wonder, with Aung San
